Adobe Audition Peak Files (.pkf) are auxiliary files created by Adobe Audition to store waveform display data. These files are not audio files themselves; instead, they contain pre-calculated waveform information that allows Audition to quickly display the audio waveform without having to re-analyze the audio file each time it's opened. This significantly speeds up the loading and display of audio files, especially large ones. The .pkf file is typically stored in the same directory as the associated audio file (e.g., .wav, .mp3, .aif). If the .pkf file is missing or corrupted, Audition will regenerate it, but this will take time. Deleting the .pkf file will not affect the audio file itself, but it will result in a delay the next time the audio file is opened in Audition. These files are specific to Adobe Audition and are not generally used by other audio editing software. They are an integral part of Audition's workflow for efficient waveform visualization.
