The PSB file format, also known as "Photoshop Big," is an Adobe Photoshop file format designed to support extremely large images. It is essentially an extended version of the more common PSD format, but without the size limitations. While PSD files are limited to a maximum size of 2 gigabytes and dimensions of 30,000 pixels in either height or width, PSB files can handle images up to 4 exabytes in size and dimensions of up to 300,000 pixels in either direction. This makes PSB ideal for working with very high-resolution images, such as those used for large-format printing, panoramic photography, scientific imaging, and other applications where detail and scale are paramount. PSB files retain all the features of PSD files, including layers, channels, paths, guides, and color modes, ensuring that complex image editing workflows can be maintained even with massive file sizes. They are fully compatible with Adobe Photoshop and other Adobe Creative Suite applications.
